Westpark, Recreation area in Braunschweig, Germany
Westpark is a 240-hectare recreation area in Braunschweig that stretches along both sides of Madamenweg, connecting different landscape zones. The space contains flower meadows, wetland habitats, and woodland patches linked by walking trails.
Development began in 1980 when Professor Nagel designed a plan to transform a former landfill site into urban green space. This reclamation project resulted in an integrated landscape that now serves multiple purposes and habitats.
Art students place sculptures and installations throughout the grounds, turning it into a space where nature and creativity coexist visibly. These works appear in unexpected spots as you walk through different sections.
Sports fields, disc golf courses, a high ropes course, and an outdoor swimming pool at Raffteich are available for different activities. Wear comfortable shoes as the paths are extensive and areas are best explored on foot.
A maze made from elephant grass shaped like the Brunswick coat of arms was created in 2020. This living puzzle offers visitors an unexpected challenge while walking the grounds.
