Wollseifen, Ghost town in Schleiden, Germany
Wollseifen is an abandoned village in Schleiden located within Eifel National Park. Three structures remain standing today—a church, schoolhouse, and residence—surrounded by numerous stone foundations marking where homes once stood.
After World War II, British forces in 1946 evacuated around 500 residents so the area could serve as a military training ground. The settlement was never resettled and remained under foreign military control for decades afterward.
The school building now functions as an exhibition space, displaying photographs that document the military exercises conducted in the surrounding area.
The site is accessible via marked hiking trails through the national park and lies on well-maintained pathways. Sturdy footwear is recommended as the terrain is uneven in places and the ground can be muddy, especially after rain.
The schoolhouse now serves as an exhibition space displaying photographs documenting the military exercises that took place in the surrounding area. Through these images, visitors can see how heavily the terrain was used for training during the occupation.
