Immanuel-Kirche, Modern Lutheran church in Stammheim, Germany
Immanuel Church is a modern religious building in Stammheim constructed with Finnish spruce timber interiors and finished with Finnish larch cladding on the exterior. A separate bell tower stands alongside the main structure, creating a distinctive contemporary design.
The building was constructed in 2012 following the demolition of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer community center that previously occupied the site. This new structure was designed as a contemporary expression of religious architecture in the region.
The building received the Cologne Architecture Prize in 2014, recognizing its contribution to contemporary religious architecture in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The interior space can be arranged with movable seating to adapt to different types of events and gatherings. This flexible layout allows the space to serve both worship services and community functions based on current needs.
Three bells from the former Lucas Church were incorporated into the new bell tower, maintaining a tangible link to earlier religious traditions in the area. These historic bells continue to ring above the community, bridging past and present spiritual life.
