Schlosskapelle, Renaissance chapel in Schloss Johannisburg, Aschaffenburg, Germany
The Schlosskapelle occupies the western section of the north wing in Schloss Johannisburg, featuring black and agate marble construction with alabaster figures.
The chapel received five direct bomb hits during World War II in November 1944, causing the ribbed vault to collapse and damaging numerous artifacts.
The chapel contains a Renaissance altar created by Hans Juncker, incorporating 150 alabaster figures with a central crucifixion group showing Jesus among angels.
The chapel opens from April to September between 9:00 and 18:00, and from October to March between 10:00 and 16:00, with entrance fees including museum access.
Four alabaster heads from the altar, taken by an American soldier as souvenirs from the rubble after World War II, were returned and reintegrated.
