The L40 building presents itself as a sharp-edged black cuboid structure situated on a triangular plot at the intersection of Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße and Linienstraße.

The construction of this residential project, completed in 2010, marks a departure from traditional reconstruction approaches that dominated Berlin-Mitte before German reunification.

The building emerges from a collaboration between architects Roger Bundschuh, Philipp Baumhauer, and artist Cosima von Bonin, reflecting modern German architectural expression.

The structure contains nine condominiums spanning from 67 to 300 square meters across seven levels, with each unit receiving natural light through strategically placed skylights.

The building rests on a pressure-resistant foam layer that reduces noise transfer, while its black concrete exterior creates a stark contrast against the urban landscape.
