Luftfahrt- und Technikmuseum Merseburg, Aviation and technology museum in Merseburg, Germany.
The Luftfahrt- und Technikmuseum Merseburg was a museum dedicated to presenting aircraft, vehicles, and technical objects. The collection held more than 50,000 exhibits across multiple areas, including planes, fire trucks, cars, motorcycles, and historical engines.
The facility used an airfield built in 1934 that was occupied by Soviet forces until 1991. After this period ended, the grounds were converted and opened as a museum space in 1996.
The museum displayed exhibits related to aircraft mechanics, vehicle construction, cameras, film equipment, computing machines, and communication devices. Visitors could explore these different technical fields across the exhibition areas.
The museum closed its operations in November 2020 following a closure order from the Saalekreis Building Authority due to regulatory non-compliance. The site is therefore no longer accessible to visitors.
An Ilyushin Il-62 aircraft was transformed into a cafe in 2003 and served as one of the museum's main attractions. This Soviet transport plane from another era gave visitors an unusual experience while dining.
