Schloss Choren

Schloss Choren is a Baroque castle in Döbeln featuring thirteen window axes across two floors, a protruding central section, and an elegant mansard roof. The symmetry of the facade and classical proportions define the overall appearance of this noble residence.

The castle was built in 1755 for Carl Leonhard Marschall von Biberstein, the General Postmaster of Saxony, under architect Samuel Locke's direction. Its construction reflected the power and wealth of this influential family throughout the region.

The building displays Dresden Rococo features with ornamental stonework and a prominent coat of arms of the Marschall von Bieberstein family on its facade. These details shape its appearance today and recall the family's former standing in the region.

The castle remains in private ownership, so visitors should observe posted signs and respect the privacy of current residents. The architecture and facade details can be viewed from outside along the street without entering the property.

From 1945 to 1980, the castle served as a school, educating multiple generations of local students within its rooms. This second chapter connected the noble building to everyday community life in an entirely different way.
