Dorfkirche Rüsseina

Dorfkirche Rüsseina is a church building in the Meissen region featuring a medieval east tower and a spacious interior with double wooden galleries. The hall can accommodate roughly 1300 people and combines Gothic and classical architectural styles.

The building was constructed in 1786 and retained an existing tower from the 13th or 14th century. This made it one of the largest village churches in Saxony at that time.

The church maintains partnerships with the Lutheran congregation of Vilaka in Latvia and serves 19 surrounding villages through regular services and concerts.

The church interior is easy to navigate thanks to its open layout with galleries on the sides. Visitors should know that regular services and concerts take place here and often draw people from the surrounding villages.

The interior features a notable combined pulpit-altar from 1786, a rare example of this merged design. The surrounding cemetery still contains burial vaults of former landowners that reflect the long connection between this church and the local community.
