Schloss Schollene, château allemand

Schloss Schollene is a two-story residence with seven sections, built in 1752 in late baroque style with classical elements. The building features a symmetrical facade with regularly spaced windows and two side wings about one and a half stories tall, creating a balanced and straightforward appearance.

The castle was built in 1752 by Friedrich Wilhelm von Printzen in late baroque style with classical elements and remained under the ownership of the Alvensleben family for generations. After 1945, the estate was confiscated, and the building served as a hospital until 1974, then as a retirement home and medical facility before eventually falling into disuse.

After 1945, the castle sheltered families displaced from East Prussia, Danzig, Pomerania, Silesia, and the Sudetenland, becoming a refuge for those who had lost their homes. This role transformed it into a place of memory for the experiences of displacement and rebuilding in the post-war period.

The castle is located in the quiet landscape of Sachsen-Anhalt in Schollene (postal code 14715) and is easily accessible from Brückenstraße. Since the building currently functions as a senior residence, it is advisable to contact the current owners beforehand to inquire about visiting possibilities and hours.

An extension added in 1978 shows how the castle adapted to modern needs when serving as a retirement home and medical facility. This alteration stands as a quiet testament to the many lives rebuilt here after the war, from displaced families to patients seeking care.
