Obere Isarau, Green space in Freimann, Munich, Germany

Obere Isarau is a green space in Munich's Freimann district, between Freisinger Landstraße and the Isar, continuing the Hirschau northward. Light alluvial woodland dominates rather than open meadows. The Garchinger Mühlbach and Schwabinger Altbach run parallel to the river; where the Großlappen sewage plant's canals cross, the Mühlbach passes over them and the Altbach beneath, and the Schleißheim Canal branches off.

The Garchinger Mühlbach and Schwabinger Altbach are two streams that have historically flowed through this area, shaping the landscape over time. These waterways continue downstream to the Middle Isarau at the city's edge.

The area serves as a habitat for rare plant species and various reptiles that thrive in this riverside setting. This ecological wealth makes the location an important natural refuge within the city.

The location offers multiple paths for cycling and walking, with the Isarsteg bridge at Unterföhring providing the only crossing to the opposite river bank. The terrain is generally flat and accessible, making it suitable for various outdoor activities throughout the year.

Where the Notauslasskanal and the sewage canal of the Großlappen treatment plant cross the Obere Isarau, the Garchinger Mühlbach is carried over them while the Schwabinger Altbach passes beneath. At that same spot the Schleißheimer Kanal branches off the Mühlbach and runs along the western side of the area, parallel to Freisinger Landstraße.
