Hexenküche im Kaufertsberg, Natural monument cave in Möttingen, Germany

Hexenküche im Kaufertsberg is a shallow horizontal cave near Möttingen where visitors enter through a narrow opening. The roof slopes gently toward the valley floor, creating a naturally sheltered space inside.

The cave was used by humans at the end of the Ice Age, who left stone tools and animal bones inside. Excavations also uncovered a burial from this ancient period, showing early human activity in the region.

The cave holds the designation D-7-7129-0200 from the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, recognizing its geological and archaeological significance in the region.

The entrance sits about 200 meters east of Lierheim at an elevation around 427 meters (1400 feet). The narrow passage requires visitors to move carefully to enter the cave.

The name "Hexenküche" translates to witches kitchen and reflects old folk stories about supernatural beings in the area. This connection to local folklore has given the site a distinctive identity that residents remember and share.
