Luchwiesen

Luchwiesen is a nature reserve near Storkow featuring wetlands, damp meadows, and woodland patches that shelter diverse plant and animal species. The area is crossed by several small waterways and contains varied habitats spread across about 104 hectares.

The area was placed under protection in 1990 when Germany expanded its conservation program in Brandenburg following reunification. This decision was part of a broader effort to preserve the region's diverse wetland habitats.

The name refers to lynxes that once roamed here and are gradually returning to the region. Visitors can observe signs of these rare animals during walks and understand their importance to the local ecosystem.

The reserve can be explored on marked trails that guide visitors through different habitats while protecting sensitive zones from disturbance. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the ground can be wet depending on the season.

The reserve plays an important role in restoring lynx populations to Germany after the species had disappeared for generations. Today attentive visitors may occasionally spot clues of these predators returning to the landscape.
