Buchenegg Waterfalls

Buchenegg Waterfalls is a waterfall system in Oberstaufen with two distinct cascades that flow one after another. The water drops from above, collects in a natural basin, and then continues down to the next cascading section.

The waterfalls formed over thousands of years through erosion of the limestone rock in the region. This process carved deep channels into the Allgäu landscape and shaped the structure seen today.

Local residents traditionally gather at the waterfalls during summer festivals to celebrate the natural water source that sustained farming communities.

The path to the waterfalls is clearly marked and takes about 50 minutes to walk. The old parking area is closed, so visitors should park at HündleBergbahn instead.

The lower section drops into a deep basin surrounded by nearly vertical rock walls. This narrow gorge with its towering walls creates a distinctive setting that is barely visible from the top.
