Vater-und-Sohn-Denkmal in Plauen, Bronze monument at Nobelstraße 7, Plauen, Germany.
The Vater-und-Sohn-Denkmal in Plauen shows two bronze figures walking hand in hand while holding a book, standing on two square bases. The sculpture sits on Nobelstraße near the Vogtlandmuseum and the Erich-Ohser-Haus.
The monument was created in 1995 by artist Erik Seidel and later donated to Plauen by entrepreneur Hans Löwel from Bamberg. This gift helped establish a lasting tribute to the famous cartoon characters created by Plauen artist Erich Ohser.
The figures come from Erich Ohser's cartoons, which he published under the pen name e.o.plauen from 1934 to 1937. These works show the close relationship between father and son that still touches visitors today and connects them to the city's artistic heritage.
The monument stands on Nobelstraße 7 and is accessible year-round without special opening hours. Its location next to the Vogtlandmuseum makes it easy to combine a visit with other attractions in the city.
In 2012, the entire bronze sculpture was temporarily covered with textiles during an exhibition, completely changing its appearance. This unusual transformation gave the work a new artistic dimension and showed how flexibly public art can be interpreted.
