The ambulance helicopter operates from BG Hospital Hamburg with a medical team consisting of a pilot, emergency physician, and paramedic for rescue missions.

In February 1990, ADAC Luftrettung established this air rescue station at BG Hospital Hamburg, introducing Germany's first dedicated patient transfer helicopter service.

The helicopter's call sign Christoph Hansa references Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travelers, following German air rescue naming traditions.

The helicopter service operates daily from sunrise until sunset, responding to emergency calls through Hamburg Fire Department's central dispatch via emergency number 112.

Since February 2022, the station uses an Airbus H145 helicopter, equipped with a rescue winch and capable of reaching speeds up to 220 kilometers per hour.
