Eichstädt, H chondrite meteorite in Breitenfurt near Eichstätt, Germany.
The Eichstädt meteorite measures 14.5 centimeters and has a total mass of 3.2 kilograms with a density between 3.6 and 3.7 grams per cubic centimeter.
On February 19, 1785, a farm worker cutting straw in a brick shed witnessed the meteorite fall, which landed nearby and shattered several snow-covered bricks.
The Eichstädt meteorite specimens are distributed across museums worldwide, including Vienna, Zurich, Gifhorn, London, Paris, New York, Cambridge, Stockholm, Prague, and Calcutta.
The largest preserved fragment of the Eichstädt meteorite, weighing 123 grams, is currently displayed at the Natural History Museum in Vienna, Austria.
Physics teacher Ignaz Pickel examined the meteorite in 1785, after which it was divided into multiple pieces, with only one-fifth of the original mass remaining today.
