Rechenwerk Computer- & Technikmuseum Halle, Computer and technology museum in Halle, Germany.
Rechenwerk is a computer and technology museum in Halle displaying a collection of approximately 2000 objects from different eras of computing history. The collection spans mechanical calculators, electronic accounting machines, and computers from various periods.
The museum was founded on November 1, 2014, with the goal of preserving computing technology and electronic equipment from East Germany through 1990. The collection focuses on documenting this technological development in eastern Germany.
The exhibition presents computing machines from East Germany alongside Western home computers, showing how technology developed differently across the divided regions. Visitors can see these differences in design and capability side by side.
The museum is located at Saalfelder Strasse 11 and opens on Friday evenings from 18:00. Visits at other times can be arranged by contacting the museum in advance.
The museum staff actively repairs and maintains the historical computing machines to keep them operational for educational demonstrations. Visitors can see the machines actually working rather than simply on display.
