Pestalozzistrasse Synagogue, Liberal synagogue in Charlottenburg, Germany
The Pestalozzistrasse Synagogue features separate seating areas for men and women, with side and upper galleries reserved specifically for female congregants.
Built between 1911 and 1913 by architect Ernst Dorn, the synagogue sustained damage during the November 1938 pogrom but remained standing due to its courtyard location.
The synagogue services incorporate organ music and a mixed choir, following traditions established by composer Louis Lewandowski for the prayer melodies.
The synagogue offers regular services, including Kabbalat Shabbat at 18:00 in winter and 19:00 in summer, with year-round Shabbat Shacharit at 09:30.
The congregation maintains specific worship patterns where prayers alternate between the cantor and worshippers, with almost every prayer being sung.
