Schloss, Heritage castle in Prichsenstadt, Germany

Schloss Bimbach is a three-storey late-baroque hook-shaped complex with a hipped roof, built 1701–1703 to designs by Joseph Greissing. Its east facade has seven window axes and a three-axis central risalit with a gable; the north portal bears the Fuchs von Bimbach coat of arms and the year 1703. A medieval pointed-arch gatehouse dated 1487 adjoins the larger side wing, and a pond in front of the main facade mirrors the building.

A noble seat at Bimbach is first documented in 1385 as a moated castle held by the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg. In 1404 the Lemplein brothers sold it to the Fuchs family, who took the name Fuchs von Bimbach. Around 1487 they built a Gothic residence; peasants plundered and burned it in 1525 during the German Peasants' War. Gilg Vältin built a Renaissance castle in 1585–86, and Joseph Greissing redesigned it in 1701–03.

The name Fuchs von Bimbach, borne by the family that bought the castle in 1404, survives in the coat of arms above the main portal, framed by the date 1703. Inside, a central hall in the main wing leads via a single-flight balustraded staircase to rooms that keep their original layout; a Gobelin imitation from the 18th century remains among the old furnishings.

The castle is in the southwest of Bimbach, a district of Prichsenstadt in the Kitzingen district. It is privately used as a farm estate (Hofgut), so the interior is not open to visitors; the courtyard, the medieval gatehouse with its 1487 coat of arms stone and the lake in front of the main facade can be viewed from the public path.

The main portal on the north side carries the coat of arms of the Fuchs von Bimbach and the year 1703, when building under Joseph Greissing was largely finished. Stones for the work came partly from the ruin of Stollburg above Oberschwarzach. The medieval pointed-arch gatehouse with a coat of arms stone dated 1487 survives at the northwest.
