St. Antonius

St. Antonius is a modern church building in Babelsberg with a rectangular floor plan and a tower approximately 34 meters (111 feet) tall, crowned with a copper roof. The structure displays features of modernist design with red brick framing and narrow windows that uniformly light the interior worship space.

The building was constructed in 1933 to provide the growing Catholic community in Babelsberg with its own place of worship, as members previously attended Peter-and-Paul Church. The construction occurred during a period when modern architectural forms were being introduced to religious buildings.

The mosaic in the apse depicts the Lamb of God and dates to the 1940s, shaping the religious imagery of the interior space. This artwork gives the interior a distinctive visual and spiritual presence.

The interior is accessible during services and offers a quiet environment for visitors who want to explore the space. The asymmetrical tower on the facade serves as a clear landmark when approaching the building.

The tower is intentionally positioned asymmetrically rather than centered on the building, which departed from typical church construction patterns of its time. This unusual feature demonstrates the boldness of the period's architecture in breaking away from conventional designs.
