Fährenpfortenturm

The Fährenpfortenturm is a medieval stone tower standing in the old district of Hann. Münden that once served to defend the town. It features defensive characteristics typical of its era and forms part of the town's surviving fortification structures.

This tower was built in medieval times to protect the town and to ensure control over river traffic where three rivers converge. Its importance lay in creating strategic observation points for the town's defense.

The tower got its name from the ferry gate that marked the connection between river areas and was therefore central to collecting river tolls. This location made it one of the town's most important control points during the period when trade flourished.
