Kloster Reuthin, Dominican monastery in Wildberg, Germany.
Kloster Reuthin is a Dominican convent in Wildberg built on a river terrace overlooking the Wildbach stream. The complex included a monastery church and residential buildings for the nuns, arranged together to form a functioning religious center.
Count Burkhard III von Hohenberg founded the monastery in 1252 by granting land from the Oberjettingen parish church to the sisters. The Dominican order took over in 1288 and established the spiritual direction that would define the place for the centuries that followed.
The monastery served for centuries as a burial site for the local nobility and became deeply rooted in the spiritual life of the region. The Dominican sisters shaped religious practices here that left lasting marks on the community around them.
The monastery sits on high ground above the Wildbach stream and is accessible on foot from Wildberg town center. Visitors should be prepared for uneven terrain and steps, so sturdy shoes are advisable.
A major fire in 1824 destroyed the monastery church and main building, leaving the complex in ruins. The remains stood for a long time as a silent reminder of the religious community that once thrived there.
