Unteres Schloss, Heritage castle in Alfdorf, Germany.
Unteres Schloss is a three-story rectangular stone castle with stepped gables and two four-story towers on its eastern side. Surrounding the main building are service structures and a private park with a pleasure house built in 1763, forming the complete castle complex.
The castle was built around 1550 for the Lords of Neuhausen and came to Georg Friedrich vom Holtz in 1639 as a reward for military service from Duke Eberhard III. The vom Holtz family has owned the property ever since, shaping its history to the present day.
The castle served as a center for craft work and farming activities, with outbuildings still surrounding the main structure today. The vom Holtz family shaped the property across generations and continues to live here, giving it the character of a lived-in historical residence.
The castle is privately owned and not open to the public, so visitors must respect property boundaries and access restrictions. From outside the grounds, the architecture of the main building and surrounding structures can be viewed from the property edge, providing adequate views of the historic complex.
From 1775 to 1864, a brewery operated on the western side of the castle complex, producing beer for the local region. This craft production was an important part of the estate's operations for nearly a century and shows how diverse the property's uses were.
