Maximiliansforum, öffentlicher zugänglicher Ausstellungsraum für Kunst in München
The Maximiliansforum is an exhibition space located in an underground passage beneath Maximilianstrasse in Munich. The passage connects Maximilianstrasse to the Altstadtring and features rotating exhibitions of art, design, and fashion with large display windows that remain constantly visible.
The space was built in the late 1960s as a traffic passage but soon became an exhibition area. Since 2010 it has carried its current name and evolved from an art forum through ZKMax into a platform for contemporary media art.
The forum functions as a meeting point for various art forms and contemporary ideas in the city. The two large display windows constantly show works that catch the attention of passersby, while exhibitions inside change regularly.
The space is open all day and free to enter, with excellent accessibility via S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains to Marienplatz. Wheelchair access is available, though the passage entrance has steps that may require attention for some visitors.
Artist Joseph Beuys held the first public display of his well-known work 'Zeige deine Wunde' here in 1974. This historic moment established the passage as an important location in Munich's art history.
