Schloss Aholming, Medieval castle in Aholming, Germany.
Schloss Aholming is a medieval castle complex in Aholming featuring multiple stone buildings connected by pathways across the grounds. The ensemble includes a late Gothic gatehouse that marks the entrance to the entire property.
The first written record of the castle dates to 1112, when the name Auhalmingen appeared in documents connected to St. Nikola Monastery. Over the centuries, various noble families ruled the estate, with the Nothafts holding it for an extended period.
For centuries, this castle served as a seat of power where local noble families administered the surrounding region and shaped its development.
Access to the castle requires advance arrangement since the buildings are under protected status and not freely open to the public. The structures are located at Isarauer Straße 41 and 43, which helps in finding the site.
In 1553, Emperor Charles V granted the castle owners special privileges to brew beer and host annual markets in the region. These privileges made the estate an economic hub with influence extending beyond local boundaries.
