Stellahaus, Office building from 1920s in Altstadt, Germany.
Stellahaus is a ten-story office building at Rödingsmarkt 52 featuring a plastered facade with large pilasters, cornices, and ornamental friezes. The structure showcases classical architectural detailing that characterizes early 20th-century Hamburg commercial buildings.
The building was originally constructed as a five-story office structure in 1875 and received five additional floors between 1922 and 1923 using advanced iron construction techniques. This expansion reflected Hamburg's modernization during the 1920s.
The facade displays four relief sculptures of merchant ships that reference Hamburg's trading past. The entrance features a relief of Poseidon, connecting the building to the city's maritime identity.
The building is located in central Hamburg-Altstadt and is easily accessible by public transport. The site sits amid the city's business district surrounded by other historic and modern structures.
The terraced upper floors make this one of Hamburg's earliest high-rise structures with this architectural approach. This design innovation allowed increased daylight and better air circulation in the office spaces.
