Altes Palais, Royal palace in Darmstadt, Germany
The Altes Palais featured a horseshoe-shaped structure with a rectangular three-story main body and numerous windows within its mansard roof.
Built between 1802 and 1804 under Landgrave Ludwig X von Hessen-Darmstadt, the palace served as the first city residence of Hessian Landgraves.
The palace hosted significant events including the civil wedding of Princess Victoria Alice of Battenberg and Prince Andreas of Greece in 1903.
Following World War I and the monarchy's abdication, the building transformed into the headquarters of the Hessian Finance Office and other government departments.
Prince George Louis Victor Henry Serge von Battenberg, connected to the English royal family, was born in the palace on December 6, 1892.
