Kyritzschule, School building in Martinsviertel, Darmstadt, Germany
Kyritzschule is a school building with early 20th-century architecture located in Martinsviertel, containing roughly 20 classrooms and a gymnasium. The structure stands at Emilstraße 10 and was designed by architect August Buxbaum.
The institution traces its roots to 1809, when a house donation from a church counselor made its founding possible. In 1907, it received a new building designed by August Buxbaum that defined its appearance until today.
The building carries the name of Church Counselor Friedrich Christoph Kyritz, whose legacy continues to shape this place. Today, various community groups and institutions use its spaces, giving the structure renewed purpose for local residents.
The former schoolyard has been converted into a public playground and activity space available to the community since August 2011. Visitors can use this area and explore the grounds freely.
The building sustained only minimal damage during World War II, making it the first school in Darmstadt to resume operations after the conflict. This gave the site a special role in rebuilding the city's educational infrastructure.
