N’Ostalgiemuseum, DDR Museum in Leipzig, Germany.
The N'Ostalgiemuseum in Leipzig's Steib-Hof passage displays over 30,000 objects from East Germany across 300 square meters of exhibition space. The collection spans a wide range of items that document life in the German Democratic Republic between 1949 and 1989.
Founded in 1999 by Horst Hager, the museum began in Brandenburg before relocating to Motzow in 2009. It finally moved to Leipzig in 2016, where it remains today.
The collection shows objects from everyday life in East Germany, from toys to radios and household items, giving a sense of how families lived and spent their free time. Visitors discover how people furnished their homes and which products shaped their daily routines.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, and the attached Cafe 1:33 offers a place to rest between viewing exhibits. Visitors can also book city tours by original Wartburg 311 cars from that era.
A distinctive feature of the museum is the option to explore Leipzig on classic Schwalbe motorcycles from the East German era. These iconic vehicles allow visitors to experience the city from a completely different perspective.
