Altfriesisches Haus, Historic Frisian house museum in Keitum, Germany.
This 18th-century museum features four authentically furnished rooms with original tiled walls, wooden ceilings, alcove sleeping niches, and cast iron stoves that once burned heather and driftwood.
Built in 1739, the house served as home to Christian Peter Hansen, a Sylt chronicler and teacher who lived there with his family until his death in 1870.
The museum preserves traditional Frisian living culture through original furniture, household items, maritime artifacts, family genealogies, and documents that illustrate island life from centuries past.
The museum operates April through October Monday to Friday 10:00-17:00 and weekends 11:00-17:00, with winter hours November through March Thursday to Sunday 11:00-15:00, offering limited wheelchair accessibility.
Visitors can experience the original alcove beds where residents slept in a semi-sitting position, providing an authentic glimpse into the unique sleeping arrangements of 18th-century Frisian households.
