Motte Beningsfeld, Medieval fortification site in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany.
The archaeological remains consist of an elevated earthen mound surrounded by water-filled ditches that formed part of a medieval defensive structure at Beningsfeld.
Built during the 11th century, this motte-and-bailey castle served as a strategic fortification point for controlling the surrounding territories in medieval North Rhine-Westphalia.
Archaeological excavations at the site have revealed numerous artifacts that demonstrate the daily routines and social structures of medieval German society.
The site, now utilized as a riding ground, maintains visible traces of the original motte hill and surrounding moat within the modern landscape.
