Fernsicht, Villa in Kellinghusen, Germany
Fernsicht is a villa on the southern edge of Kellinghusen, positioned west of the Stör River and east of the Breitenburger Straße bridge. The structure underwent extensive renovation in the early 1920s under George von Schröder's ownership, taking on its current appearance as a manor house.
Originally purchased in 1845 by Hamburg merchant Camille Vidal, the property initially served brick and ceramic production. The manufacturing facility operated until 1903, after which the site was transformed into a private residence.
The property takes its name from the far-reaching views that extend across the surrounding landscape from the site. Visitors today can still experience this open vista from the house itself.
The house sits easily accessible on the southern edge of town and is visible from the road. The surrounding area offers open views and allows for a good overview of the property and its setting within the landscape.
In the middle decades of the 20th century, the estate served as a nursing and retirement home, providing a place for many people to live. An additional guesthouse was built in 1965 to accommodate more residents.
