SAR 87

The SAR 87 is a modern rescue helicopter based at Holzdorf Air Base, serving the region around the clock. It carries specialized equipment that allows crews to respond quickly to emergencies and conduct rescue operations in difficult conditions.

The SAR 87 arrived at Holzdorf in 2021, replacing an older Bell helicopter model that had served the base for many years. This upgrade gave the rescue squadron access to newer technology and improved capabilities for handling emergencies.

The helicopter represents Germany's commitment to maintaining advanced rescue services through military and civilian cooperation in emergency situations.

The crew includes two pilots and a rescue specialist who maintain constant readiness to deploy immediately when called. Visitors can view the base and helicopter from designated public areas, though access to the runway and operational zones is restricted for safety.

The helicopter carries a winch system and specialized search lights that allow rescuers to locate people even in darkness or poor visibility. This equipment makes it exceptionally suited for operations in mountainous terrain or accidents in remote areas.
