Spitalkirche Heilig Geist

The Spitalkirche Heilig Geist is a hospital church in Ingolstadt featuring three naves on a rectangular floor plan divided into six bays, supported by robust columns with decorative stucco work. The interior is characterized by Renaissance murals and an important collection of religious and artistic elements.

The church was built around 1350 on the site of an earlier structure, following the founding of the hospital by Ludwig the Bavarian in 1319. This close connection between the church and medical care shaped the building's purpose from the beginning.

Renaissance murals decorate the interior walls, while the main altar from the late 17th century displays an oil painting of the Holy Spirit by Johann Kaspar Sing.

The church is open during regular hours and located in central Ingolstadt, making it easy to reach on foot. Visiting during quieter times of day allows you to view the interior details and artwork without distraction.

Four preserved baker guild standards remain displayed in the church, offering rare evidence of how closely trade associations and religious communities were intertwined. These objects reveal the practical connections between local craftsmen and the church.
