Neues Rathaus, Municipal building in Ingolstadt, Germany
The Neues Rathaus is a municipal administration building with a broad footprint, large support pillars, and a modern gray-toned facade with shuttered windows. The structure opens toward the Rathausplatz and houses several city department offices.
The building was constructed between 1957 and 1960 following designs by architects Steinhauser, Lutter, and Köhlein. It replaced an earlier administrative structure destroyed during the Second World War.
The building serves as a meeting point where residents handle administrative matters and participate in city events. The plaza in front creates a focal point where locals and visitors naturally converge.
The building is open Monday through Friday for residents handling identification, registration, and certification matters. Arriving in the morning is advisable since service windows can become busy in the afternoon.
An underground pavilion extension was added beneath the main structure in 2006, connecting directly to the entrance foyer. This feature is often overlooked by visitors but shapes the internal spatial flow.
