Rittergut Bockerode, Manor estate in Springe, Germany
Rittergut Bockerode is an estate in Springe featuring a two-story timber-framed mansion with six window axes surrounded by farm buildings and gardens. The complex continues to operate as an active agricultural facility producing various crops in the Calenberg region.
The origins of this estate trace back to a property called tom Rode granted in 1448 by the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg to the Lords of Frencke. The current mansion was built in 1736 on the foundations of an earlier structure that had previously stood on this location.
The house carries the name of an old noble family and reflects the living culture of the 18th century. The rooms show how wealthy landowners lived and managed their estates during that period.
The estate is located in the Calenberg region and can be viewed from outside, with agricultural buildings and gardens visible from public areas. The best time to visit is during the PotatoEurope exhibition held every four years, which offers additional insights into modern farming practices.
The estate hosts the international PotatoEurope exhibition focused on potato varieties and cultivation methods. This event attracts farmers and technology experts from many countries and demonstrates how agriculture continues to modernize.
