Bennigser Burg

Bennigser Burg is a medieval fortification near Springe located on a hillside. The site shows earthen walls and ditches surrounding the terrain that mark an ancient defensive structure.

The site was built in the 10th century as a defensive structure and was confirmed through archaeological finds from the 1930s. Ceramic remains show how the place was used and valued during that time.

The fortification shows how people in the early Middle Ages protected and organized their settlements. The site reflects the building methods and defensive thinking of that era, which you can still see in the landscape today.

A visit requires good footwear because of the uneven terrain and earthen walls. The site is not suitable for wheelchairs and offers few developed paths.

The site sits strategically on a hilltop from which the surrounding area could be surveyed. On two sides, natural stream valleys provided extra protection against attacks.
