Wasserburg Haus Glehn is a three-story water castle in North Rhine-Westphalia with towers anchoring the corners. The complex includes a gatehouse and farm buildings, all surrounded by a moat system that encircles the entire property.
The castle was founded in 1560 by Dietrich Fleck von der Balen and got its alternative name Fleckenhaus after reconstruction following a fire. This rebuilding shaped the structure that stands today.
The architecture displays Dutch Renaissance features with large windows and decorative elements that shape the appearance today. These design details show the artistic aspirations that the past owners wanted to express.
The grounds are accessible from the outside, though the interior cannot be visited due to residential use. Visitors can appreciate the exterior architecture and moat from the property's perimeter.
The gatehouse and farm buildings were connected by covered passages built in 1912, an unusual way to modernize a historic complex. This addition shows how owners in the 20th century adapted the old structure to their needs.
