Schloss Oberköllnbach, Baroque castle in Postau-Oberköllnbach, Germany.
Schloss Oberköllnbach is a three-story Baroque palace with four wings arranged around a central courtyard and distinctive rustication on its southern elevation. The pilaster divisions and overall composition reflect the formal proportions typical of Baroque residential architecture.
First documented records trace back to 1230, and the Baroque structure was built later as a remodeled version of an earlier residence. Swedish forces during the Thirty Years' War caused significant destruction to the property between 1618 and 1648.
The chapel dedicated to St. Achatius reflects centuries of architectural evolution, transitioning from Gothic to Baroque style with modifications completed in 1695. Visitors can observe this layered history in the building's vaulted interior and decorative elements.
The castle is located in rural Bavaria near the municipality of Postau and is accessible by car. It is now owned by the local government, so visitors should check ahead regarding opening times or arrangements for viewing the property.
A brewery called Schlossbrauerei Oberköllnbach operated on the castle grounds until 1960, producing beer for regional distribution. The brewing operation was absorbed into the Graf Arco Brewery in Adldorf and ceased operations there years later.
