Konviktskirche, church building in Germany
The Konviktskirche is a Baroque church in Ehingen with a Greek cross floor plan. Four freestanding pillars divide the interior into nine symmetrical sections, with the roof constructed from wooden beams.
The Benedictine Abbey of Zwiefalten began construction in 1712, with Abbot Beda Summerberger completing the consecration in 1719. It ranks among the earliest Sacred Heart churches in Germany, reflecting important religious developments of the early 18th century.
The interior displays Baroque stucco work and ceiling paintings that emphasize the spatial layout. Visitors can observe the oval frescoes and the large dome painting, which together create a unified decorative scheme.
The building underwent major restoration that was largely completed by the early 20th century and throughout the early 2000s, maintaining good condition today. The symmetrical architecture and multiple entry points allow flexible viewing of the different spatial sections.
The building was equipped with modern lighting technology to highlight its architectural features. This combination of historic Baroque form and contemporary light systems creates a distinctive experience for visitors.
