Bahnhof Porz-Heumar, railway station in Cologne, Germany
Bahnhof Porz-Heumar is a railway station in Cologne that opened in 1910 and is now protected as a historic monument. The old station building stands beside single-track rails in a quiet residential area on the edge of the Rath/Heumar district.
The station opened on 1 August 1910 as Heumar and was originally part of the Oberbergische Bahn line connecting Cologne with towns like Rösrath and Overath. Passenger service ended in 1991, after which it served only train operations and was placed under heritage protection in 1996.
The station was renamed from Heumar to Porz-Heumar in 1966 to reflect its connection to the Porz district more clearly. Today, the location tells the story of how trains once linked daily life between Cologne and surrounding towns.
The station is located in the Rath/Heumar residential area and is easy to reach on foot or by car, though it no longer has active passenger facilities. Visitors can view the protected building from outside and observe the historic rail tracks.
A roof from the 19th century that originally belonged to this station is now preserved in a museum and shows the original construction style. This historic component gives insight into how comfortable or functional travel facilities were in earlier times.
