Brehm-Gedenkstätte

The Brehm Memorial Museum is a natural history institution housed in a protected building that preserves the workspace and collections of a family of naturalists. It displays bird specimens, handwritten notes, and household objects that reveal how these researchers worked and lived.

The collection grew in the Brehm family home, where Christian Ludwig Brehm and his son Alfred conducted their research and studied animals. After the Second World War, the property was converted into a museum in 1946 to share their work with the public.

The name reflects the Brehm family's deep roots in the region, with their work shaping the local story for generations. Today the space shows how natural study was woven into daily family life during the 1800s.

The museum sits near the village church and is reached by foot from the town center on a short path. Plan for two or three hours to walk through the rooms and study the displays at a comfortable pace.

Several of the bird specimens were prepared by Christian Ludwig Brehm himself, allowing visitors to see the craft techniques of the 1800s. These handmade pieces show how closely scientific work and practical skills were linked in that era.
