Misburg water tower, Water tower in Misburg, Hanover, Germany.
Misburg water tower is a cylindrical concrete structure in Hanover that stored water for the city's supply system. The building has a simple, functional form typical of mid-twentieth century industrial facilities.
The structure was originally built as an air protection bunker during World War II and was converted into a water storage facility in 1960 to support the city's post-war growth. This repurposing allowed an existing wartime structure to serve the expanding city's new needs.
The building now serves as a working space for musicians who rent studios within it. This transformation into a creative hub has given the structure new purpose and brings regular activity to the industrial site.
The tower is visible from outside, but it sits within a residential area and operates as a private music facility, making interior visits difficult to arrange. The best way to see it is to walk through the neighborhood for an exterior view of its distinctive cylindrical form.
After the war, this former bunker was converted into a music studio complex in 1992, giving it an entirely new function. It is one of the few places in Hanover where a wartime remnant was so successfully repurposed as a creative workspace.
