Talbrücke Schraudenbach, Highway bridge in Werneck, Germany.
Talbrücke Schraudenbach is a motorway bridge in Werneck that crosses the Stängersgraben valley and connects traffic on the A7. The current structure is a modern concrete construction with four traffic lanes and two emergency lanes.
The original structure was built in 1965 and served traffic until 2015 when renovation work began. The project ended tragically with a collapse in June 2016 during construction.
The bridge is part of the motorway network and shapes the landscape of the Werneck valley for decades. It represents to many the importance of well-functioning transport infrastructure in the daily life of the region.
As an active motorway bridge, it is not accessible to pedestrians and should only be observed from passing traffic. The best place to view the structure is from surrounding roads or parked areas beside the motorway.
The 2016 collapse was a significant event for the engineering industry and led to extensive investigations into safety standards. The reconstruction was completed with heightened focus on quality control.
