Kurbad Königstein, Public swimming pool and health center in Königstein im Taunus, Germany
Kurbad Königstein is a public swimming pool and wellness center in Königstein im Taunus featuring a distinctive stepped design with four levels. The structure houses a central 25-meter pool and incorporates a mirrored ceiling that amplifies the sense of space.
The facility opened in 1977 as the House of Health, replacing the former Hotel Taunusblick that had been demolished in 1933. The new building rose on a vacant site that had remained unused for decades before being revitalized.
The pool incorporates colors tied to the region's royal heritage in its design scheme. The architects and artist created a space where local history becomes part of the visual experience for every visitor.
The pool is within easy walking distance from the town center and has adequate parking nearby. Visitors should know it accommodates both swimmers and families with children, and includes a sauna within the facility.
The building was designed by architects Rudolf and Ingeborg Geier, whose modern approach made it a remarkable example of 1970s design. In 2011 it received recognition as one of the most beautiful indoor pools in Europe.
