Königstein im Taunus, Health resort town in Hochtaunuskreis, Germany
Königstein im Taunus is a spa town in Hochtaunuskreis district in Hesse, located on the forested slopes of the Taunus mountain range. The municipality sits about thirty kilometers northwest of Frankfurt am Main and forms part of the densely populated Rhine-Main region.
A settlement formed around the castle in 1215, serving as a control point on the trade route between Frankfurt and Cologne. The town later gained recognition as a health resort due to its elevated position and the clean air of the Taunus forest.
The town organizes the annual Burgfest at Königstein Castle ruins, featuring medieval tournaments, traditional performances, and regional craft demonstrations throughout multiple days.
Regular train connections run from the station in the town center to Frankfurt and other places in the region. The different districts can be explored on foot or by bicycle, as many paths run through forests and between settlements.
The municipality consists of three districts with their own character: Falkenstein with its castle ruins, Mammolshain surrounded by orchards, and Schneidhain at the forest edge. Each district developed separately over time and maintains its own identity within the administrative unit today.
