Villa Borgnis, Cultural heritage monument in Königstein im Taunus, Germany.
Villa Borgnis sits below Burg Königstein castle and displays classical architectural style with a veranda added during 19th-century expansions. The building now houses a restaurant, wine tavern, and serves as the municipal registry office.
Originally operating as a guesthouse called am Grünen Baum, the property was purchased in 1838 by banker Matthias Franz Borgnis who transformed it into a villa. In August 1927 it reopened as a public spa house after the town had pursued this goal for more than 76 years.
The building hosted the founding of the Junge Union Deutschlands political youth organization in 1947 and served as the city library until 1997. Visitors can see the spaces where these important local institutions once operated.
Following major renovations completed in 1999, the villa welcomes visitors who can dine at the restaurant, enjoy the wine tavern, or conduct official registry matters. Its position below the castle makes it easy to find and visit.
The building represents the fulfillment of a long local wish - after the town had pursued a spa house for more than 76 years, it finally opened in 1927. This story of patience and persistence makes it memorable for local residents.
