Burg Nürings, Medieval castle ruins in Königstein im Taunus, Germany.
Burg Nürings is a castle ruin near Königstein in the Taunus region, now reduced to a tower stump at 500 meters elevation. The former residential tower has walls measuring roughly 12 by 12 meters and sits on rocky terrain close to Burg Falkenstein.
The lords of the Nürings family abandoned the fortress during the medieval period, after which the lords of Bolanden took control of the site. They subsequently built Burg Neu-Falkenstein on the same ridge nearby.
The castle ruins demonstrate the architectural methods of medieval German fortification, with strategic defenses including steep rock faces and protective moats.
The site sits within a protected nature reserve with narrow and uneven paths that require careful footing. Sturdy footwear and good balance are important for visiting this remote location.
The visible stone structures date between the late 13th and early 15th centuries, as recent research has confirmed. This corrects earlier assumptions that had misjudged the age of the remains.
