Schloss Schmiechen

Schloss Schmiechen is a four-story building with a hipped roof situated in the Bavarian landscape. The structure is surrounded by a moat and retains many original features from its original period.

The Fugger family purchased and renovated the castle in 1509, making it an important noble residence. During the Thirty Years War, the building suffered severe damage but was later restored.

The castle displays traditional architectural features that wealthy families of the region favored. Walking through the building, you recognize the craftsmanship and design choices typical of noble residences from that era.

The best time to visit is during daylight hours when you can clearly see the architecture and building. It is advisable to wear comfortable footwear, as the grounds and access roads may be unpaved.

The current owners bear the name Wiedersperg-Leonrod in honor of Ludwig von Leonrod, who resisted dictatorship. This naming choice shows how the family preserves their values and history within the identity of the place.
