Lechstaustufe 21 – Prittriching

Lechstaustufe 21 is a hydroelectric power station with a barrage near Prittriching along the Lech River. The facility operates three Kaplan turbines to generate electricity while creating a reservoir in the river valley.

The power station was built between 1983 and 1984, marking an important step in hydroelectric development along the Lech. Fish passage facilities were added later to help mitigate environmental impacts of the installation.

The power station represents Bavaria's commitment to sustainable energy production while maintaining the ecological balance of the surrounding water systems.

The facility is located at approximately river kilometer 63.9 on the Lech and can be viewed from existing paths nearby. The area is partially accessible, but has no special visitor facilities, so stick to marked routes.

The power station features fish passage systems installed since 2022 that allow aquatic organisms to cross the barrage. This solution shows how modern energy generation attempts to reduce impacts on river ecosystems.
